Earlier this month, the BSA handed down a decision that both declined a complaint we made about an inaccurate poll run by Newshub, but also pointed out that the poll was poorly worded. The poll in question equated New Zealand becoming a republic with leaving the Commonwealth, which is wrong.
Newshub’s report last night on the Commonwealth Games was an excellent turn around from their reporting earlier this year. Pointing out that there is only a handful of Commonwealth members who still have the Queen as their head of state, and a number of members (most recently Barbados) have already made the transition or are planning on doing so.
We’re very pleased to see this. It emphasizes why our campaign exists - to ensure the public have the facts in this debate. Unfortunately, the self-proclaimed pro-Commonwealth groups in New Zealand have remained silent, despite having far greater resources than New Zealand Republic to put the record straight.
