The Otago Daily Times comments on the two referendums held at this year’s General Election, and notes:
So, that is two big referendums (almost) done and dusted. Any appetite for a third? New Zealand as a republic, perhaps?
That’s an emphatic yes from us. Holding referendums at the same time as general elections ensures strong turnouts and better engagement. As we saw with the flag referendums, postal-only referendums don’t have great turnouts.
