Christopher Luxon: "I think, ultimately, New Zealand will become a republic"

Incoming Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has commented to The Times newspaper in the UK that “I think, ultimately, New Zealand will become a republic”

New Zealand Republic, Kia Mana Motuhake a Aotearoa spokesperson Savage said “Christopher Luxon’s recent comments to The Times indicates that he understands the basis for change.”

“The transition to a republic is straightforward and could easily start by making the appointment of the Governor-General formalised across parliament. That would put in place a system that includes all sides of the house.

“We would then expect a referendum to be held, transitioning the Governor-General to our actual head of state” concluded Savage.
